CHARLOTTE — Only one man delivers in December like Chuba Hubbard, and he's from a little bit north of Edmonton.
The Panthers running back was named NFC offensive player of the week on Tuesday after his walk-off touchdown in overtime against the Cardinals.
Hubbard had 25 carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns against the Cardinals, including the dramatic 21-yard game-winner. It was also a testament to the trust the entire program has in Hubbard since it came the same month as a fumble in an overtime loss to the Buccaneers.
"It speaks to his character," Panthers head coach Dave Canales said. "That's just who he is. He's going to go right back to work, and we're going to keep giving him the ball, especially in these types of moments. It was a beautiful finish.
"It was just the old school duo play. And our guys, they fit up the blocks properly. He ran behind his pads and secured the ball, finished in the end zone. It was great redemption for Chuba, for sure."
t was his 10th touchdown of the season, and it moved him past Stephen Davis (20) and into fifth place on the team's all-time rushing touchdown list with 22. He trails only Cam Newton (63), Jonathan Stewart (51), DeAngelo Williams (46), and Christian McCaffrey (32).
He's also fourth on the team's all-time list with seven 100-yard rushing games, tying Davis, DeShaun Foster, and Tshimanga Biakabutuka. He trails Williams (18), Stewart (16), and McCaffrey (12) on that list.
Congratulations, Chuba!!!
