SO... once again I am proved wrong. The Panthers, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to trade UP one spot to #32 to take Xavier Legette. They ended up exchanging spots with the Bills. The Bills had previously traded down from #28 to #32 with the Chiefs. They then traded down again, one more spot with the Panthers. So the Bills now have our #33. So what was the result.??

With at least four WRs still on the board... Adonai Mitchell, Ladd McConkey, Keon Coleman, and Troy Franklin, ALL OF WHOM were ranked higher than Legette... So we gained ONE SPOT for no reason, and gave up one of our 5th rounders for a 6th. In addition to the WRs listed, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Cooper DeJean, and Zach Frazier were ALL still on the board.!!!

In what universe does this make sense.???

I am so disappointed. Completely demoralizing....

Correction: we moved up one spot for a 5th year option. At least that’s what I’m thinking…

Bills having a heck of a draft.

I think you are correct but I think it is crappy reasoning. See Brian Burns. If you have a player then pay the player, year three is need be. We needed that asset, a rebuilding team that position might/should start, 60
Places later might not make the team.

Horrible day in the office Morgan.

Ya know… I had a longer response, but after an hour or so, I figured “Nah. Not worth it”. So I’m deleting this, and saying some people can be on fire and be mad that someone used water to put them out or given diamonds and be mad they weren’t pearls. There’s no making y'all happy lol. We are doomed so doomed. Death to the panthers franchise after this move so horrible… *yawn*

Well...I was wrong.  Shocking....lol.

I agree we traded up to get the 5th year option.  At this point, I am going to trust Dan and Dave.  Dave spent a lot of years coaching WR's.  Also not going to lay the mistakes of the past on Dan's shoulders.

I heard Nicole wanted McConkey ( lol )

I have to think that Canales wanted Legette more than the others. Maybe he thinks he can schem better with Legette than the others. We all had them rated as if there were no difference in Legette, McConkey , Mitchell and others.. I'm pretty sure NFL scouts can split hairs with them and tell us why Legette is best for Canales or why McConkey would be better. We aren't scouts.

Every year there is someone who wanted player XYZ and said we were stupid for taking player ABC ... I'm sure when we took Cam number 1 ,, there were plenty who didn't want us taking him...

I'm ready for training camp and August

Looks like Legette is pretty good on the 50/50 balls. He goes up well against his defender.

Looks like Spencer Rattler looked good with him.. ( we need too many other moving parts though lol )

MAYBE...

But I think it's important to recognize the fact that 1st round picks have a "success" rate on fifth-year options at around 50%.  It should be noted here that I am NOT against drafting Legette. But, I am DEFINITELY against paying too much for the right to draft a player. (any player..). The fifth-year option is definitely a part of it. But considering the "hit" rate, and the fact that the "option" carries a salary approximately equal to the 'transition tag' ..... the fifth-year option is NOT a way to keep a rookie on an inexpensive contract. Folks tend to think that it just extends the rookie contract. That is NOT the case.

So.... just keeping it real here. We took Legette at #32. According to a consensus of draft boards - not ONE board - a consensus of more than 200 boards - Legette was a mid to low 2nd up to a high 3rd value. Some boards had him as high as mid 40s, others as low as low 70s. That is the reality of his draft value. We took him at #32. So... OK. It was a bit of a reach. And there is the fifth-year option to consider. So, I'm NOT complaining about Legette -- not really.

Here is the problem AFAIAC.  At #33 or #32 there were at least a double handful of players we could have used that were ranked higher than Legette. We moved up ONE spot; ONE (1) draft position. To get there, it cost us the difference between #141 and #200.  So, we gained ONE (1) draft position by giving up SIXTY (60) draft positions.

Think about it...

Anyway -- It's done. Spilt milk and all that ....

So, now we look "forward" to #39.

**sigh**
