Bears' Asking Price For No. 1 Draft Pick Reportedly Revealed (msn.com)

Ever since the Chicago Bears secured the first pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, speculation has swirled that the team might trade it.

General manager Ryan Poles hasn't quite committed to that strategy, saying the team will assess all of its options before making a decision. But it would make sense. The Bears have a quarterback in place who they could build around in Justin Fields, and given the number of teams fighting to draft a top signal-caller, there should be quite a bit of demand for the top spot.

We now have an idea of what the Bears are looking for in order to move down from No. 1 overall.

Robert Mays of the Athletic said on a recent web show that he has heard the Bears are looking to receive a 2023 second-round pick, plus first-rounders in 2024 and 2025 if they are going to swap selections with a team currently outside the top five.

"The price that I heard from outside the top five, is your one this year, a two this year, a first in 2024 and a first in 2025," Mays said.

While that might sound like a steep asking price, Mays believes it is reasonable given what other teams have given up to move into the top three in the past. He cited the San Francisco 49ers, who traded up from the 12th overall pick to third in 2021 to draft Trey Lance, as an example.

"That trade includes a future first the following year and the year after that," Mays said. "So there is precedent for that sort of move. And it's the No. 1 pick. You get your pick of the draft. You control the draft if you make this trade."

Quarterback-needy teams that could be interested in moving up the draft board include the Indianapolis Colts, who currently control the fourth pick, and the Carolina Panthers at ninth overall.

It also remains possible that the Bears could trade Fields and use the No. 1 pick to select a new quarterback, but it seems unlikely Fields would command that sort of return.

All eyes will remain on the Bears between now and draft night, April 27, to see which way the first domino of the NFL Draft falls.
