A nice article, of course opinionated. But still, I hope we get it right.

Yep...

As we get closer to 'Draft day' we will see more and more of the talking heads pretending to "know" what the Panthers are thinking.  As First mentioned, it's all just "talk" and "hype" right now. The only ones who really know what is going on..... are not talking.  No need to let all the OpFor know what you're doing ahead of time.

And Yes, I hope we get it right too..!!

The TALK is heating up.  Big Grin

Everywhere you look (read..) procrastinators (Talking Heads..) are spouting a bunch of drivel about what exactly the Panthers are going to do on Day 1 of the Draft. We are supposed to believe that these incompetent idiots have their fingers on the "pulse" of what the Panthers hierarchy is thinking. Which of course is silly.  Mainly because I don't believe for a second that the Panthers KNOW what they're going to do---YET.

Anyway... The latest 'insiders viewpoint' has "the pick" switching from Stroud back toward Young with Richardson gaining ground quickly. In a two-horse race, the numbers very slightly favor Young over Stroud at 51--49. If you add in the remaining two competitors and make it a four-horse race, it becomes a very muddy question indeed. Stroud and Young are a dead-heat, with Richardson holding as much as 20 % of the number--- depending on to whom you listen.

So, what does this mean.??  Well, frankly, not much. Because, as I mentioned, the Panthers WILL proceed with a "consensus" pick (gosh, I HOPE they do..), and I believe they have not yet arrived at a consensus.  And it may not happen until they're on the clock on the 27th.

I still believe that CJ Stroud should/will be the pick.  IF NOT..... then I think Richardson has a good shot at it. With this coaching staff, and the support we will have around the position, Richardson would have everything he needs to succeed quickly. I think his trajectory would be similar to Cam's, although hopefully with more wins.  If you remember back in 2011..... Newton won the OROY, threw for 4000+, but only won six (6) games, and had 17 INTs.  Richardson has more speed, and a better arm (strength).

I just still cannot see the Panthers taking Richardson after such a huge investment when both CJ Stroud and Bryce Young are better right out of the box.

Yeah..... That's the question to be answered.  Are the Panthers going all-in for THIS Year, or are they planning on developing for a year or so.?? If ALL of these QBs are going to develop (and they WILL..), What would the REAL difference be after Year 1.??

Right now, CJ Stroud is our best bet (IMHO..). But after a year of development, is Richardson a better choice.??  Do we sacrifice a QB with tremendous UPside (Richardson..), for a QB that is more ready right now.??

I just don't know....... I'm glad I am not making these decisions.

Kristen Balboni continues to "stir the pot" a little. Recently she interviewed Mina Kimes (a journalist..."talking head"..) about the four QBs being considered for the #1 spot.  You can see the "interview" on Panthers.com or watch it direct on YouTube.

Any chance we trade to two, get Stroud, n get something good? My response to the subterfuge. Gotta get who we want though def. Just a thought.

Supposedly the Texans love Young.

IF the Panthers were to trade back..... it would have to be a VERY specific deal. They would need to be in control. They would need to feel very confident that their guy was going to be there.  I don't see the Panthers going down lower than #3.....and THAT would have to be a really specific deal. It's hard to tell what you would "gain" by trading back two spots.

I could see a double trade happening maybe..???  Some team down in the order trades up to #3. Then they trade the #3 to the Panthers for the #1.  I just don't see the Cardinals trading up to #1. They don't need a QB, so why trade up to #1.??

I think the Panthers are probably going to stay at #1. Although as Fitts says..."we'll listen to anything."
