They show four HC openings with potentially one additional one in Washington with no projection. I will contend that there will be at least seven total HC hirings this year..... and maybe more.  The average tenure for a HC in the NFL is slipping downward each year. Teams are getting "restless" earlier and are looking for progress quicker. The average "turnover" rate among HCs in the NFL is about 25% per year.  That equates to about eight per year. (The actual 'computed' average is about seven..).

Anyway, I think we'll see several more than the article mentions. With the dissatisfaction being expressed across the league, I wouldn't be surprised to see eight or nine......

OTOH... I am frequently wrong about these things. So, there's that...

Well....6 so far.  I think Bellichick survives, gives up GM duties and brings back Josh McD.

You could be right. However, Vrabel's star is rising on the Patriots horizon...

There are three others who I really thought were in danger along with Vrabel. Daboll (Giants); Saleh (Jets); and Eberflus (Bears). Have you noticed the "talk" surrounding Steelers HC, Tomlin..??  Something could still happen.... although it gets increasingly less probable...

Another one just fell:

Pete Carroll will not return as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks next season but will remain with the franchise as an adviser, the team announced Wednesday.
“After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from head coach to remain with the organization as an adviser,” Seahawks chair Jody Allen said in a statement released by the team.

Hmm ... This one was a little bit of a surprise. I liked Pete Carroll. The Seahawks were always a tough road game for us. He always had them ready.

Looks like you are right, Bill is gone.  I wonder if Vrabel's availability was a factor.  And now there are 8 openings.

A little bit of research --- and a lot of luck.

INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT...

After firing Belichick, the Patriots did not (apparently..) make a run at Mike Vrabel. Instead, they have made the first BIG decision (reportedly) this off-season with the hiring of Jerod Mayo..

According to reports flying around, Mayo has always been their choice. They had previously documented that choice in a contractual agreement and notified the NFL at that time of their intent. This enables them to proceed with the hiring without going through the "process." So, apparently, it's a done deal. Official announcement due from the Patriots next week.

Fblaugh Fblaugh Fblaugh

Does Tua's performance last night against the Chief's in -7 degrees, give you any hesitation in maybe wanting Frank Smith , the Dolphins Assistant Coach ? Does Tua's performance Durning the season give you call to think twice also, based on the great talent he has around him ??

The offense belongs to McD. Other than a win against Dallas at home they won against teams with losing records.  They have not figured it out yet and that with Fangio at DC.  Smith does not excite me given his experience:

As a coach:
Miami (Ohio) (2004–2005)
Graduate assistant

Butler (2006)
Offensive line coach

Butler (2007–2009)
Offensive coordinator & offensive line coach

New Orleans Saints (2010–2014)
Assistant offensive line coach

Chicago Bears (2015–2017)
Tight ends coach

Oakland / Las Vegas Raiders (2018–2020)
Tight ends coach

Los Angeles Chargers (2021)
Run game coordinator & offensive line coach

Miami Dolphins (2022–present)
Offensive coordinator

Given the mess the team is in, I am favoring a young, tough, smart DC.  Hard for Evero not to be on the top of that list.  His D dealt with a lot of adversity (injuries and ....the offense)  he kept them playing at a high level and they did not quit.  He has also coached on both sides of the ball:

Coaching History

Year Age Level Employer Role

2004 23 High School Davis HS (CA) Assistant Coach
2005 24 College (FCS) UC Davis Assistant Coach

Worked For:

Jim Harbaugh Assistant, Defensive Assistant, Offensive Assistant
