They said Harbaugh to the Chargers.  Pierce gets the Raiders job.  "Ben Johnson makes sense in Carolina."  Thinks Smith gets canned and maybe Bieniemy gets his shot?  No real prediction for Washington. Does not see any other openings.

Tough to see anyone wanting to work for Tepper but getting LAC and the Raiders out of our way would be great.  Tepper has wanted Johnson for a while  (Tepper liking someone is concerning)   I would like him to see a real experienced NFL decision maker about that (and everything!).  Good news is that there may not be a ton of openings.

Would love to see Evero stay and Fitt getting a diff job. New GM seems like a need as well.

See and read all sorts of stuff. Seen two pieces mentioning Johnson, SC born, went to HS in Asheville, college at Carolina.

Would want $15 million per year, and that he doesn’t want Young and Ray Agnew would be coming with him.

Hmmm.... I think that Bleacher Report article has missed the boat somewhere. They show four HC openings with potentially one additional one in Washington with no projection. I will contend that there will be at least seven total HC hirings this year..... and maybe more.  The average tenure for a HC in the NFL is slipping downward each year. Teams are getting "restless" earlier and are looking for progress quicker. The average "turnover" rate among HCs in the NFL is about 25% per year. That equates to about eight per year. (The actual 'computed' average is about seven..).

Anyway, I think we'll see several more than the article mentions. With the dissatisfaction being expressed across the league, I wouldn't be surprised to see eight or nine......

They also list Atlanta as probable. NE also a probable.   That's 6.

They think Allen gets another year in NO.  Not sure there.

Who else you got?  Jerry Jones is always good for coaching speculation if the 'Boys don't make a deep playoff run.

I like THIS hire better as HC.

Panthers head coach rumors: Carolina owner David Tepper could hand Lions OC Ben Johnson a blank check (msn.com)

For the second time in as many years, the Carolina Panthers will be conducting a head coaching search. Frank Reich lasted just 11 games this season, which was the shortest tenure for an NFL head coach in the last 45 years, per Sports Illustrated.

One coach who is expected to be a hot commodity on the market is Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. The Panthers had interest in him last cycle before he opted to return to Detroit, and are expected to circle back with him again this offseason. In fact, many believe Johnson is high on team owner David Tepper's list. 

According to a report from SI.com, many people internally in Carolina think Tepper will hand Johnson a blank check. Tepper is reportedly "looking to check 10 boxes" this time around, which makes sense since he's bungled the last two hires.
According to CBS Sports HQ Senior NFL Insider Josina Anderson, some NFL owners have been told that Johnson's asking price is at least or around $15 million a year -- which would automatically make him one of the highest-paid head coaches in the NFL. Johnson's agent disputed this report.

Some view Johnson as a natural fit in Carolina. The 37-year-old was born in Charleston, South Carolina, went to high school in Asheville and attended college in Chapel Hill. He's an offensive mind that could get No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young on the right track.

Johnson's offense currently ranks No. 3 in the league in yards of total offense per game (395.7) and is tied for fifth in points per game (26.9). Thanks to that high-powered offense, the 11-5 Lions won the NFC North for the first time ever this season.

To help him guide his franchise for the future, Tepper has been working with the consulting firm Sportsology, led by former Chelsea FC executive Mike Forde. Should he fire Fitterer, Tepper then would have a clean slate to offer a prospective head coach and GM, though Panthers assistant GM Dan Morgan also has support within the organization, according to sources.

You ask tough questions..!!!    Seriously though... I know you realize I was just pushing the buttons on the statistics generator. Just using the old "analytics" to hopefully generate some additional discourse. But, since you asked...

I'll do a little spit-ballin' here.  We'll have to agree on the first three -- because they are a done deal...

Chargers -- Staley (GONE)
Raiders -- McDaniels (GONE)
Panthers -- Reich (GONE)

The next three are  "questionable" but their names have come up... AND the teams record over the last four years...

Falcons -- Smith -- (2023--7-9) ('22--7-10) ('21--7-10) ('20--4-12)  (TOTAL = 25-41) --- I THINK this could happen. Falcons are getting tired of their mediocre rankings. The last four years have been pretty bad.

Commanders -- Rivera -- (2023--4-12) ('22--8-8-1) ('21--7-10) ('20--7-9)  (TOTAL = 26-39-1) --- New ownership. That says it all. Rivera is on borrowed time.

Patriots -- Belichick -- (2023--4-12) ('22--8-9) ('21--10-7) ('20--7-9)  (TOTAL = 29-37)  --- The Patriots have been average at best since Brady left. Not much more to say. Belichick could be fired (OR he might retire..).


This next group (IMHO..) are within the "questionable" envelope as well. (NOTE -- OPINION -- JUST opinion..)

Jets -- Saleh -- ('23--6-10) (7-10) (4-13) (2-14)  (TOTAL = 19-47)  --- Saleh has been with the Jets for three years. They're just as terrible as the Panthers.  YES, I know they have Rodgers coming back (probably--maybe??), but ...???  Is Saleh the answer.??

Steelers -- Tomlin -- ('23--9-7) (9-8) (9-7-1) (12-4)  (TOTAL = 39-26-1)  --- Tomlin is a fixture in Pittsburgh.  BUT-- The Steelers are mired in mediocrity. This is a very unusual condition for the "Steel Curtain" boys. The only thing saving this team from complete "nothingness" is their record from four years ago. Since then the vaunted Steelers 'toughness' has been more like a mouse than a cat. Not saying that Tomlin is in trouble, BUT... I don't see the Steelers FO putting up with this for too long...

Titans -- Vrabel -- ('23--5-11) (7-10) (12-5) (11-5)  (TOTAL = 35-31)  ---  Vrabel has been with the Titans for five years. He started off pretty good, but the last couple of years he (and the team) have been slowly sinking into obscurity. The Titans stay pretty competitive, but it's all about "what have you done for me.....lately?" And the team is all about their record. The last couple of years they're 12-21. So...???

Giants -- Daboll -- ('23--5-11) (9-7-1) (4-13) (6-10)  (TOTAL = 24-41-1)  ---  Daboll has been with the Giants for two years. The Giants have under-performed continuously. No reason to believe that anything will change for the better. Daboll might be safe for another year -- OR, he might not.

Bears -- Eberflus -- ('23--7-9) (3-14) (6-11) (8-8)  (TOTAL = 24-42)  ---  Eberflus has been with the Bears for two years. He'll probably get another year --- maybe. The Bears have had lots of high draft picks but so far they continue to disappoint. Will the Bears allow Eberflus to manage another two high picks this coming year.??? (TWO in the top-10..).

Cardinals -- Gannon -- ('23--4-12) (4-13) (11-6) (8-8)  (TOTAL = 27-39)  ---  Gannon is a first year HC. The Cardinals have NOT been playing good ball, but I really don't think he's going anywhere next year. However, -- It's possible. Just ask Frank Reich...

Texans -- Ryans -- ('23--9-7) (3-13-1) (4-13) (4-12)  (TOTAL = 20-45-1)  ---  JUST KIDDING HERE... DeMeco Ryans is safe. He's in his first year and he has the Texans playing inspired football in comparison to the previous years. Doesn't hurt that he has the #1 rookie QB on the field. This team has been "crappo" since Watson got in trouble. Ryans and CJ Stroud have turned this team around. We'll see if it lasts in 2024.

Broncos -- Have been terrible for a few years. But they have a first year HC in Sean Payton and I don't think he's going anywhere next year. So, I'll call him safe (for now...).

To close this out..... I really think the Saints are going to stand pat with Allen, and the same for Bowles with the Bucs. They're both second-year HCs and their teams are playing mediocre football. They'll probably get another year.

There are a couple others out there who may be on a short leash...for various reasons. It's not always about W-L. Could be internal strife or disagreements with staff or owners.  And sometimes we don't see it coming at all. Health, retirement, etc., etc.

 

Interesting how you mentioned Demeco Ryans…. He is who I originally wanted, and CJ was the Original QB I wanted, but I digress. I jumped on the BY bandwagon because he’s a sharp college QB. But he hasn’t shown that in the NFL.
