Played for a great defensive coach and got his weight down and then he got his weight down even more pre draft. Nutrition team and conditioning team will work close with him. This guy was a steal and the second best available in my opinion. Starter game one, productive starter.
Princely on the other hand I am just okay with. I don’t ever see him being a three down guy like Nic but a situational pass rusher. I guess it contributes to some need but will have to be developed some in this area. Disappointing because there were starters at TE (even though I like sleeper Jackson Hawes from GT) , CB and safety still on the board, imo. I really like Kevin Winston and I thought we were making the move for him, or I would have traded back and took a flyer on Charles Grant who I honestly never saw play but have read great things and when you give up 2 sacks in three years it has to get one’s attention. But I would have rather chosen a potential starter at that spot.
My last thought before we start today. I hope at some point round five maybe we select Kyle
McCord… in three to four years it will be determined he was the best QB in this yeara draft. Shades of Tom Brady.
AGREED... I like Scourton too. He's really young though. "Maturity" could be an issue. Young kids often make poor decisions. Hopefully he'll get stronger, learn quickly and keep his weight under control.
I am on the record as hoping for a QB somewhere around Rd. 5. I WANT one who has the size and strength to be an active part of a goal-line Offense. I've been advocating for Notre Dame QB, Riley Leonard. He looks big and strong, and has a great arm. Give him a year or two and he IS an NFL QB. (IMHO).
Listening to his presser he sounds like a nice young man who is mature for his age. He spoke of looking forward to learning from the vets. He will make rookie mistakes but fortunately the team is in a position where he can be in a rotation instead of having to be the guy right off the bat.
